ABOUT

Weald Power Yoga was founded by Ruth Birch, Yoga teacher and music industry executive. After many years working for record labels in London and around the globe, Ruth wanted to build a welcoming yoga community in one of the most beautiful parts of the English countryside. 

Ruth completed her teacher training in London at the school of Hot Power Yoga. Her teaching style is Vinyasa Power Yoga influenced by Baron Baptiste and Forrest Yoga. As well as 200 hr teacher training, Ruth has also completed workshops in Anatomy & Kinesiology and Body Psychotherapy, lead by Forrest Yoga Guardians. Ruth is fully qualified in first aid. 

OUTLINE

Join Ruth for an energizing and relaxing weekend of yoga, deep rest and delicious food nestled in the beautiful South Downs National park. We will practice yoga twice per day; with an energizing morning power practice and relaxing and unwinding evening session. Yoga sessions can take place in the cosy library or in the beautiful woodland yurt with a toasty wood burner.

You will fuel your yoga practice with sumptuous seasonal vegetarian feasts created by the in-house chef. A delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner will be freshly prepared for you everyday, using plenty of local, organic and homegrown produce.

The goal of the weekend is to treat yourself to some hard-earned ‘me time’, luxuriate in extra time and space for your yoga practice and to head home feeling replenished and refreshed!

YOGA PRACTICE

Please note all the yoga practices included in the weekend will be for all-levels and beginners are welcome. Mats and props will be provided but you should feel free to bring anything of your own which you would like to use.

If you haven’t already practiced yoga with Ruth before, she will ask you to fill in a short- health form so that she is up to speed with any medical conditions or injuries and can guide you through your practice most effectively.


You will take part in 4 x Yoga practices over the weekend. 2 x practices will be energizing power yoga and 2 x practices will be much slower and restorative. A total of over 5.5 hours of guided yoga and meditation throughout the weekend.

SCHEDULE

Friday Evening

Slow Flow to relax and unwind you into your weekend. This practice will be focused on nurturing breath, soothing forward folds and lingering stretches, bringing you into stillness and relaxation. We will end with a Chakra meditation to bring balance and grounding to the first evening of your retreat.

Saturday morning

Expect to stretch, flow and salute the sun with this dynamic power practice. Working to strengthen and release the whole body, we will also have special focus on the hips throughout this morning practice. Our hips can be a store cupboard for stress, fear and anxiety and tension housed in this area can reverberate throughout the body, commonly showing up in lower back, knees, shoulders and the jaw. This practice will gently warm the body and guide you gradually into healing hip-opening poses.

Saturday evening

On Saturday evening you will be lead through a blissful and nourishing Yin Yoga practice. Yin Yoga focuses on gently stressing the connective tissue around the joints (ligaments, fascia etc) and stimulating energy lines throughout the body. This practice is very slow, most poses are conducted from a seated or lying down position, allowing the body to soften and release very gently. Think comfy bolsters, warm socks and blankets...this practice will stimulate the body in a completely different way to power yoga and is known to give many practioners (especially first timers!) the gift of an amazing night’s sleep! There will be the option of essential oils to use on the body during the yin practice to encourage relaxation and a deep sense of wellbeing. We will end the session with Yoga Nidra - a mediation practice which crystallizes that stillness in body and mind we have cultivated throughout the postures. Imagine the best savasanna you have ever had and then turbo-charge that!

Sunday morning

Expect to stretch, flow and salute the sun with this dynamic power practice. Working to strengthen and release the whole body, we will also have special focus on neck and shoulders throughout this morning practice. The sequence will connect longer holds with flowing vinyasas to unlock tightness in the upper body and shake off tension.

8am Power Yoga: Focus on opening and releasing in the hips (90 mins)

9.45am Breakfast

11am – 1pm – Downtime / guided walk in South Downs National Park

1.30pm – Lunch

2pm – 5pm Downtime

5pm Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra (90 mins)

7pm Dinner


Sunday

8am Power Yoga: Focus on unlocking neck and shoulders (90 mins)

9.45am Breakfast  

11am – 1.30pm Downtime

1.30pm Lunch

3pm – Check out/ goodbyes

PRICE AND BOOKING

Total price per person for the retreat weekend is £359. This includes your 4 yoga practices, all meals (from Friday supper to Sunday lunch) and your accommodation.

A deposit of 50% which £179.50 is required to book your place, and then the balance of £179.50 is due 6 weeks before the event (by 19th January).

Deposits are non- refundable and any cancellations made within a month of the event will also be non-refundable due to the difficulty in filling the place at the last minute.

PACKING LIST

Please bring a waterproof layer and outdoor shoes. All yoga gear is provided but feel free to bring your mat or any specific props you like to work with. You will need a warm layer (cardigan / hoody) and socks for your Yin yoga practice. Towels are provided but we recommend bringing an extra towel from home if you would like to use the sauna.

TRAVEL

Lewes is the nearest train station and savings can be made by booking your train ticket in advance via Trainline.com. Taxis from Lewes train station are approx £18 each way and local taxi drivers are aware of Tilton House.
